I'm nothing special.....
by Alun
..... in fact, I'm a bit of a bore. If I tell a joke, you've probably heard it before. But I have talent, it's a wonderful thing. And everyone listens when I start to sing. I am so grateful and proud. All I want is to sing out loud!
OK - for those of you that know it (and that'll be at least everyone born before 1980!) those are the opening lines of the song by Abba "Thank you for the music".
Think about those words for a moment. How do you relate to those words? Do you see yourself as a bit of a bore? Do you know and appreciate the talents that you really have? You see the things is - we ARE all special. Each and every one one us. We each have a talent or two that makes us literally "sing". It may not be actual singing, but I guarantee there's something that you can do that you're bloomin' good at! That's why you're hear.
It's time to appreciate all that you have and, more importantly, all that YOU ARE! Rather than focusing upon the fact that you may not be good at telling jokes, or that you don't actually sing that well (note I didn't say "can't"!), focus instead upon the gifts and talents that you do have. The gifts and talents that you LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to draw upon and share. That's where your energy focus lies. That's where true happiness reigns.
Love and accept every single part of yourself. If you're tone deaf, love yourself for it! Because it means that you can stop worrying about being a singer and perhaps, instead, focus upon being a writer, or an author, or a teacher, or a shop keeper, or a road sweeper, or, or, or.... whatever!
The point is - we actually ARE all special. Me, them, and YOU! Now - however you do it, go "sing your song"!
.... so I say thank you for the music, the songs I'm singing, thanks for all the joy they're bringing. Who can live without it? I ask in all honesty, what would life be, without a song or a dance what are we? So I say thank you for the music. For giving it to me! Thank you Abba! :-)
