One Soul

by Alun Email

There is really only One Soul in the whole of what we call “existence”. That’s a thought that came to me very recently and kind of blew my mind. Sounds simple at first, then you need to look at it a bit deeper.

In previous writings, I’ve referred to and stated that God (or Spirit) is in everything. Absolutely everything. It’s more than that really. Spirit actually IS everything. Everything you see, hear, feel, and experience is all a part of the same thing. The computer you’re reading these words from, the chair you’re sitting on, the location you’re at, the body you’re inhabiting at the moment, the sounds you can hear, the air you can feel and smell, and so on. Spirit is everything.

So let’s get back to the soul. There is one soul. They are not separate. Like the branches on a tree or the arms on an octopus – all souls are just extensions of the same thing. They do not hate each other. They do not strive or fight. They work together for a common purpose. The branches spread out to produce more leaves, to gain more sunlight which will be processed into food. The more branches, the more fruit is provided and more flowers for pollination to other trees. The tree does not keep the pollen to itself to the detriment of other trees. It share it freely. Same as the fruit and the shade it provides, and so on. The tree doesn’t jealously or selfishly guard what it provides – it shares freely and unconditionally.

As souls in physical bodies – WE are the branches of the One Soul that exists. Doesn’t it seem strange then, that we (and by that I mean the human race) allow ourselves to hate and be angry with other “branches”? Given the above, are we not then really just hating ourselves? Do you hate your finger when it is cut by accident? I doubt it. Where possible you wash it, tend it, and stick a plaster on it and help it heal quickly. If you break your bones in your leg, you don’t cut it off completely. You wrap it in plaster and take the pressure off it to help it mend.

Other people are like that too. When someone you meet is angry, or aggressive, or something else that you don’t like, remember this: They are you, and you are them because we are ALL just one soul. Treat the other person like a wound that needs healing, i.e. with compassion, and unconditional support to help them become whole again. Don’t hate them because they are wounded, love them and help them let go of the wounds.

The other thing to remember of course is that, because we are all parts of the whole, what we do to others, we are really doing to ourselves. Worth thinking about in terms of the relationships you’re experiencing at the moment. We all deserve love. Every single one of us. Without exception. By loving yourself, you are also more able to love others and recognise that they are really not that much different from you. Another branch on the Tree of Life.
